Fantasy and Science Fiction for Children and Teens
Description:What would you do if you lived your entire life surrounded by walls, unable to get out and explore the wider world? You would probably try to find a way out, and that's exactly what Alexa Daley does. Alexa lives in a group of four towns which are walled in to protect the inhabitants. The towns are arranged like spokes on a wheel, and even the roads connecting the towns are walled in!
At the center of the wheel is the town of Bridewell, and when Alexa visits Bridewell with her father for the annual council meeting, she explores the city determined to find a way outside the walls. But when the unexpected happens, Alexa discovers that the towns are in danger. Alexa must solve the riddles of the Jocasta stones to save her people before it's too late.
Mom's rating: 4.5 wands
Mom's Review:The Land of Elyon is an interesting world full of possibilities. Outside the walls lurk surprises, enchantment, and adventure. Inside the walls there are spies and danger. Alexa doesn't know who to trust, and it's exciting to follow Alexa's adventures as she and her animal companions try to solve the riddles and save the city from the danger within and without. The book is not overly scary, although a few "bad guys" do die. I can't wait to read the next installment in the series.
