Description:

Lottie’s special talent is remembering, and telling stories of the things she remembers. But when she suddenly finds in sixth grade that she can’t remember the stories anymore, her father drags out the Story Box, a special box that he had made for her when she was six years old. Lottie doesn’t believe that the Story Box will help her remember, until she and her friend Lewis are transported through the box into LightLand, a magical world where memories become real. But LightLand is in trouble, assaulted by the Night King who would steal the memories from all of LightLand’s residents and use them to add to his own power. Lottie and Lewis must risk everything to stop the Night King and save LightLand.

Mom's Review:

I loved this book. It's a unique and imaginative fantasy that resonates with the theme of independence of thought and action. Lottie and Lewis each demonstrates his or her own brand of independence; Lottie wears pajamas to school and Lewis refuses to talk to anyone except Lottie. LightLand is a fascinating world; it's made up of the memories of Lottie and Lewis and others, yet we are told it's not a dream, it's a real place.
