Mom's Review:

Magyk is a cute and clever story with some interesting twists and surprises. Unfortunately, the story is a little too cute for its own good, and I suspect that many middle grade readers will be turned off by the condescending tone. The author bio says that her previous books have been picture books and chapter books, and I suspect she is used to writing for a younger audience. Indeed, this book would probably be more appropriate as a read-aloud to younger children than for its intended audience. (Although, parents of young insect lovers should note that some insects lose their lives).
