David's rating: 5.0 wands David's Review:Excellent book, really fun to read. It is interesting how the cats act like humans in ways, but still act like cats. The author also paints a very rich picture of the places in your mind.
Mom's rating: 4.0 wands Mom's Review:Cats may live with us, but they are still wild at heart. The ancient Egyptians knew it when they fed and pampered the wild cats who made themselves at home in Egyptian silos but came and went at will. Rudyard Kipling knew it when he wrote, " I am the Cat that walks by himself and all places are alike to me." And everyone who has ever been owned by a cat knows it.
In Into the Wild, Erin Hunter presents a fascinating story that shows the wild animal at the heart of every domestic cat. The story is exciting and suspenseful, as ThunderClan is beset by threats from within and well as from rival clans. And although the many characters with similar names are confusing at first, the reader quickly becomes becomes attached to them, which is surely one of the reasons why these books are so popular.
The clans live on the edge of survival, and nature is depicted realistically here, including the killing and eating of prey. Cats do die, including some that the reader has come to love. The deaths add depth and meaning to the story, but sensitive children may be troubled by these books. The books should be fine for anyone who can handle the Harry Potter books.
