Fantasy and Science Fiction for Children and Teens
Description:Boy is the young assistant to a magician named Valerian, and he remembers little of his life on the streets before he became Valerian's Boy. He doesn't know who his parents were, and to his knowledge he has never had any other name besides "Boy." Life with Valerian is difficult - Valerian is demanding and short tempered - but it's better than being on the streets. Then, in the week between Christmas and New Years, the Dead Days, Boy and a girl named Willow are swept up in events that the cannot understand or control. Two men are dead, and Boy and Willow are accused of the murder. Valerian's life is in danger, and if Boy and Willow can't help him find a certain book of power by New Years Eve, then Valerian will be dead, too.
Mom's rating: 4.0 wands Mom's Review:Those who like their fantasy dark and slightly creepy will enjoy The Book of Dead Days. The story is suspenseful and the search for the Book mysterious. The book is rich in detail which brings the setting and the characters to life. This is not a book for the faint of heart: Valerian's search for the Book takes the trio to graveyards, dark underground canals, and even a gruesome animal experimentation lab. But those who like their fantasy gothic will find a lot worth reading here.
