As in all the books in this series, I'm amazed at how much "human" emotion and drama are expressed in these cats. One of the things that makes the series so successful is that the cats are at once strange and familiar. They live in a world very different from our own, with different laws and customs, yet we can identify with their feelings of love and loss and fear and the search for identity. In Twilight, the prophecy cats find the changes especially poignant, as the closeness they felt on the journey inevitably gives way to new priorities and new friendships. Each of the cats must choose where their friendship and their loyalty lies.
