Description:

Despereaux Tilling is a mouse, but he is different than the other mice. You see, Despereaux is a romantic. Unlike the other mice, who are mainly concerned with finding food and staying away from rats and humans, Despereaux loves things like fairy tales and music. And Princess Pea. On the day when he first sees the Princess, he falls deeply in love with her. Because of this, Despereaux is banished to the dungeon, where the rats live. And so, like the knights and heroes that he loves to read about, Despereaux must use all his courage and his love to overcome the challenges he faces and save the Princess and the kingdom.

Mom's Review:

It's for good reason that this book won the Newbery Medal - it's a beautiful, multifaceted story that adults and children of all ages will love. The story of Despereaux and Princess Pea and Chiaroscuro the rat and Miggory Sow will touch your heart and leave you breathless. Highly recommended.
