Fantasy and Science Fiction for Children and Teens
Description:Having received the prophecy from Midnight, the cats chosen by Star Clan must make the long journey home to tell their clans. Along the way, they meet cats from the Tribe of Rushing Water, who have their own customs similar to but different from the clan cats. The Tribe has their own ancestor spirits and their own prophecy to fulfill: a prophecy that may interfere with the clan cats journey.
Mom's rating: 5.0 wands Mom's Review:This is a terrifically exciting and moving book. Having dispensed with the set-up in book one, the author was able to get this story moving quickly and it never stops. The reader becomes as attached to the characters in this book as they become attached to each other. The Tribe of Rushing Water is an interesting twist: similar enough to the clan cats to be familiar but different enough to provide a change of pace. I see why this series has attracted so many fans; the cats are fully developed characters and I'm sure that every fan has his or her own favorite or favorites. (My favorites are Stormfur and Leafpaw.)
Nature is violent, and Erin Hunter doesn't shy away from depicting it realistically. Besides the catching and eating of prey by the cats, there are deaths of cats as well. The deaths add depth and meaning to the plot, but sensitive children may want to avoid this series. It should be fine for anyone who reads the Harry Potter books.
