I don't think it's entirely out of the realm of possibility for Firestar to be the 4th. There may be a good argument against it that I don’t remember right now, though.

I’ve looked all through SOTM, but I can’t find it now. Perhaps Lakey, the All-knowing can tell me. I don’t know where else it might be, but recently I read where Jayfeather was with Yellowfang (I’m pretty sure) & saw the faint outlines of Firestar’s lost lives in StarClan She told him that he would stay that way until all his lives were there & she said he had 3 lives left. I’m pretty sure it was 3. I’ve been trying to find this to verify it said 3, b/c if Vicky has put that number in a recent book, that is the number she’s going with. Whether or not it’s the correct number is irrelevant; it’s the one she’s got to go with now, and that’s a lot of lives for him to lose in 2 books. She just might end OOTS with Firestar still alive. Wouldn’t that be a royal twist?

EDIT: I FOUND IT - see pg. 219 in Fading Echoes - Yellowfang says (at that time) 5 of his lives are in StarClan (leaving 4).

Oh, & I think there's little question that is Firestar on the cover. And I worry that means we've come full circle - Firey on "Into The Wild" & Firey on "The Last Hope" - and we won't see these cats again & my heart breaks at that thought. I HAVE to know what Jayfeather's life is like. Sometimes he's as real to me as Sarah or Nomy or Maya. I know, I'm crazy. Get over it.

The fourth? The fourth what? I feel like I missed something. And yeah, that link doesn't work...

LOL. I said it but I can only suppose I meant the 4th in the prophecy - page 293 in Sign of the Moon - Cloud from the Tribe of Endless Hunting comes to Jayfeather in a dream & tells him "Three must become four, to challenge the darkness that lasts forever." She says, "The fourth is with you already. You will not have to search far." And that is Firestar, apparently.

I think that's pretty definitely Firestar. Only other it could be is maybe Squirrelflight, but I think she's more red than orange (not that the covers are always perfectly accurate).

Wow, I totally forgot that...I should probably reread SOTM. I don't have it with me anymore, though...
