Moyers again - Robin Hood Tax

Another enlightening interview - about "The Robin Hood Tax ("a small government levy the financial sector would pay on commercial transactions like stocks and bonds. The money generated, which some estimate could be as much as $350 billion annually, could be used for social programs and job creation...")and National Nurses United.

I liked what RoseAnn DeMoro (leader of National Nurses United) had to say. Listen to what she says about "absolutes." I like it.

She & her nurses kicked

She & her nurses kicked Arnold Schwarzenegger's butt!

I didn't watch all of it, too

I didn't watch all of it, too long lol. But I definitely like the idea of a Robin Hood tax. That's an awful lot of money.

The bit of it I watched, I

The bit of it I watched, I watched last night, so I don't remember it very well, but I found a transcript and used ctrl+f to find the part about absolutes. It's about halfway down the page I think. For those who prefer reading to listening:

http://www.alternet.org/story/155402/%22serious_as_a_heart_attack%22%3A_roseann_demoro_explains_how_to_raise_$350_billion_from_financial_transaction_tax/?page=entire

I absolutely agree with what she says about absolutes.

I like what she says after that, too, about changing the political process.

Ooh, love that last line, too. "I am really sick of the people who are apologists for finance. From my perspective, and it may sound simplistic, but working people built this country. And you know what, Bill, if we have to, we can build it again."

I'm pretty beat from

I'm pretty beat from volunteering at the animal shelter today (cleaning a whole load of cat cages is harder than it looks, lol), so I don't have the willpower to watch it (although would I even if I weren't tired? That's debatable, haha). But I do support the kind of tax that you described in the post.

The animal shelter? Bless

The animal shelter? Bless your heart, Losty. You're a good person. I would get too upset & depressed if I volunteered at the shelter - I could probably do StreetCats if I had better control of my time.

No, I'm not a good person, I

No, I'm not a good person, I just really love companion animals, lol. I'm not volunteering with the ACC - then I would be upset, because it's kind of dismal there. Also I'm not hauling my *** up to 110th street, haha. It's nicer here - it's No Kill, everyone's really nice, and everybody cares so much about the animals there. They actually are happy and well-taken care of there. It's actually kind of nice :) Definitely hard work, though.

I'm losing it - posting all

I'm losing it - posting all sorts of unrelated stuff & editing it - don't know where the comment is that I meant to add to... I need to go to bed.

Yeah, StreetCats is no-kill. When I was looking for what turned out to be Nomy (I got her at Woods in San Luis Obispo, a no-kill), I had to stop going to the "pound." I'd see those kitties that you knew would not get adopted unless someone just happened to come in & say, "Oh, look Daddy, he looks just like Tiger!" And you knew what happened to them when they weren't adopted. And I'd go back to my car & cry (I feel like crying now). I had to stop going there.

Oh, yeah, I get that :( It's

Oh, yeah, I get that :( It's actually strange, because there are some cats here that I totally would not expect to get adopted, but do - cats with no eyes, cats with three legs. And then there are those who seem completely normal and have been here for years and years. There's actually a cat there right now with three legs named Hayley - she's super sweet :) She's this tiny little grey tabby with pretty green eyes, and she leaned in so far to rub her head against me to get me to pet her, she almost fell off the garbage can she was sitting on :P

Some people really want to

Some people really want to adopt cats (& dogs) that they figure most people won't - I love those people. I have to have someone easy.
