Warriors: Warning #1 (Chapter 3)
Alright here's my story, a few days late. Sorry!
Heatherbreath sat in the middle of camp, breathing in the beautiful afternoon air. She blinked her blue eyes and sighed, then swiveled her ears at a strange, loud sound.
Nope, just a monster.
She reached over and licked her sore paw, it still in pain from the battle with the Riverclan cats yesterday. Her mate Whiskerloss padded up to her and sat down.
“What cha’ doing?” he purred.
She looked at his whiskers and giggled.
“Are you making fun of my whiskers again?” he purred.
“No…” she mewed innocently.
“Yes you are.”
“Alright, I am.”
He twitched the side that only had a few stubs of whisker left and she laughed.
“Works every time,” he purred.
Heatherbreath turned her head as her daughter Dampmoss, padded by.
“She should really try and fluff up her pelt,”
Whiskerloss joked at his daughter.
Heatherbreath smacked him with her tail.
“Don’t say that!”
“Hey look,” he meowed pointing his tail to Harestar.
“Let all clan cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath me for a clan meeting,” Harestar called out.
Cherryseed let her kits over to Harestar, they bounced with excitement. One was a brown tabby, the other a light brown tabby.
“It is time my kits were made apprentices, Beetlekit, Tawnykit come forward. Beetlekit, Tawnykit, until you receive your warrior names you shall be know as Beetlepaw and Tawnypaw. Whiskerloss you are ready to take on another apprentice. You will mentor Beetlepaw and Dampmoss you are ready to take on your first apprentice you will be Tawnypaw’s mentor. I ask you both to pass down all you know to my kits,” Harestar meowed.
Whiskerloss smiled at her and walked up to Harestar with his daughter Dampmoss following him. He touched noses with his apprentice and she did the same.
“Beetlepaw, Tawnypaw! Beetlepaw, Tawnypaw!” the clan chanted.
Dampmoss dashed up to her.
“Isn’t this great mother, my first apprentice!” she purred.
“I’m very proud of you, maybe we can train our apprentices together sometime,” Heatherbreath purred.
Tawnypaw came up to her mentor.
“What are we going to do now?”
“How about I show you around the forest?” Dampmoss answered.
“Alright!” she squeaked.
“See you later Heatherbreath,” she meowed and headed out with her new apprentice.
“Heatherbreath you’re going to the gathering,” Harestar meowed.
“Alright,” she answered.
He nodded and padded off.
“When are we going to go training?” Antpaw asked.
“How about now?”
Antpaw ran out of camp.
“Wait up!” Heatherbreath called and ran after her.
As Heatherbreath caught up to her she meowed, “Ready?”
She smiled, “Alright we’ll work on some battle moves.”
Antpaw got into position, Heatherbreath could see Webfling training with his apprentice Tanpaw.
“Alright, now attack m…”
Antpaw leaped forward before she could finish. Heatherbreath ducked to the side, but Antpaw was ready and she turned and leaped on Heatherbreath’s back. She flung herself backward and found that Antpaw was ready again, she slipped underneath her and pinned Heatherbreath down.
“Wow, good job. You’re getting much better.”
As Heatherbreath padded into camp that evening the clan was getting ready to leave for the gathering.
“Come on Heatherbreath,” Fernleaf meowed.
“Alright let’s go,” Harestar yowled and they left the camp.
“Do you think Snowflight will be out of the nursery yet?” Fernleaf asked.
“I don’t know?”
“I miss her.”
“Yeah me too.”
As they came to four trees she could see all the other clans were already there.
“We’re the last ones,” Fernleaf meowed.
Fernleaf walked off and Heatherbreath could see Cloudyhaze padding by with Seedwhisker right behind him.
“You know, you don’t have to watch me like a kit, I’m fine,” Cloudyhaze growled.
“Hey,” she meowed.
“Hello Heatherbreath,” Seedwhisker meowed.
“How are things in Thunderclan?”
“Good, in Windclan?”
“Oh pretty good.”
Cloudyhaze padded away quietly his blind eyes showing his annoyance at his clan’s overprotection.
“You know you don’t have to treat him like a kit,” she whispered pretending he was still there.
“Yeah, but he thinks he such a great warrior, he could get hurt being so proud,” Seedwhisker whispered back.
She shrugged and padded over to a group of apprentices.
“Sparrowkit’s almost an apprentice,” Mosspaw purred.
“My denmates became warriors!” Swooppaw meowed.
“Hello,” Heatherbreath meowed.
“Hi.” Bumblepaw slightly growled.
She turned her head to one side and remembered the battle with his clan, he must be thinking about it now.
“Are things alright in Riverclan?”
“Oh,” she meowed and walked away.
“Hey there,” Whiskerloss purred.
“Hey,” She purred back.
Heatherbreath could hear the leaders calling the cats together to start the meeting.
“Windclan will speak first,” Harestar announced.
Heatherbreath gazed up at her leader.
“Earlier today my kits Beetlepaw and Tawnypaw were made apprentices.”
Harestar waved his tail over to them and they each stood up and sat back down.
“Windclan has nothing else to report.”
Mallowstar stepped forward, “Riverclan has two new warriors, Fawnpelt and Frostgaze. We have also lost a warrior, Whisperwing was killed in battle yesterday. Mistypaw’s new mentor is Lemonsquirt. Yesterday my kit, Sorrelkit was swept into the river but was saved by two Thunderclan warriors, Seedwhisker and Brightswipe.”
Heatherbreath turned to the two warriors as the other cats did. Seedwhisker sat smiling and so did Brightswipe.
She turned her head back at the sound of Poppystar’s voice, “Lilydance’s kits came this morning, she had two healthy toms who have not been named yet. The father, Dashpelt is here tonight.”
Finchstar stepped ahead after Poppystar had finished, “Shadowclan do not have much to report, just that Snowflight’s kits will be apprentices soon.”
She and the other leaders climbed down and started to gather up their clanmates.
Heatherbreath noticed a cat sitting by himself, she curiously padded up to him.
“Hey,” he meowed deeply.
“What’s your name I’m Heatherbreath, from Windclan.”
“Yeah, I know, I can smell it and I’m Darkwind.”
She frowned, “Oh that’s a nice name.”
“Yeah,” he meowed and got up.
Real nice cat!
“Coming Heatherbreath?” Whiskerloss purred.
As they walked back to camp he meowed, “So who was that cat I don’t think I’ve seen him around before.”
“His name was Darkwind.”
“Hmm,” Whiskerloss sighed.
Heatherbreath collided with a cat in front of her, Bugbrush.
“What are you…?” she began but saw a cat lying on the
ground in the middle of camp, dead.
She walked around Bugbrush, leaving Whiskerloss behind and padding up to the cat. His black pelt was matted and he had black fur in his claws.
“Swipefoot,” she whispered sadly.
“Let all clan cats old enough to catch their own prey join beneath me for a clan meeting!” Harestar called out.
She turned around to her leader as he called the clan together.
“You may now know but, our deputy Swipefoot is dead. He was not just killed in a battle but, murdered.”
The clan let out terrified gasps.
“We must find out who did this! Right now I need to appoint a new deputy. I say these words before Starclan, that the spirits of our warrior ancestors may hear and approve of my choice. The new deputy of Windclan is Heatherbreath!” Harestar announced.
Heatherbreath heart raced as her clanmates turned to her.
Me deputy? Wow!
She stepped up to Harestar and the clan chanted out, “Heatherbreath, Heatherbreath!”
“Deputy, wow, I’m so proud of you!” Whiskerloss purred.
“Thank you Whiskerloss,” she purred and rubbed against him.
“Oh congratulations mother!” Dampmoss purred.
“Yeah, you’ll make a great deputy!” Heatherbreath’s friend Fernleaf meowed.
“You’re tired, come on,” Whiskerloss meowed and they padded to the warriors den.
Once she was in her nest Whiskerloss whispered, “Night…deputy.”
She smiled at him and happily fell asleep.
